Hotel Mohrenwirt in Fuschl am See
Salzburger Nockerl - the Mohrenwirt's specialty
Since 1846 the Hotel Mohrenwirt has stood in the centre of Fuschl am See in the magical Salzkammergut Lake District. It was the great-great-great-grandmother of the current proprietor, Jakob Schmidlechner III, who gave the local village inn its name “Mohrenwirt”. Inns and restaurants were often named after saints and holy figures and in this case Caspar, one of the Three Wise Men served as an inspiration for the hotel’s name. In those days the name “Mohr” was given to persons of African or Asian origin and the bust of an African man has remained the hotel’s emblem for one and a half centuries. We have continued to use the name “Mohrenwirt” because, what we are and would like to continue to be, is a homely hotel and restaurant where locals and guests from all over the world feel equally at home. The Hotel Mohrenwirt plays a central part in village life, it is a popular venue for weddings, christenings and local association get-togethers – The Hotel Mohrenwirt remains a popular meeting point in Fuschl am See.

Where cooking is concerned the Hotel Mohrenwirt is very conscious of its roots, however this is combined with the joy of experimentation and modern cooking techniques and recipes.
