The bike event Eddy Merckx Classic with start and finish in Eugendorf, Salzburg, is a real highlight in the national and international bike scene.
Eddy Merckx, who was born in 1945, is one of the most successful road bikers ever. The Belgian won the Tour de France and the Giro d’Italia five times and he had more than 500 professional victories in total. To honour the Belgian road bike legend, the Eddy Merckx Classic, which is a real road bike challenge, has been set up in Salzburg.
And like every year, Eddy Merckx will start off with his legend team. Stage winners of the Tour de France and winners of different one-day-challenges are participating in his team.

Eddy Merckx Classic, the road bike event in Salzburg
With the Eddy Merckx Classic, Salzburg proves its competence regarding bike sports and underlines its status as Austria’s bike paradise. Salzburg was the venue of the bike World Cup in 2006 and in total 6000 bikes and mountain bikes kilometres are leading through the country.
Track sections of the bike WC 2006 are also part of the 155 km long Eddy Merckx Classic-Tour which leads amongst others, up the mountain “Gaisberg”. Being on this local mountain of Salzburg, you have a great view over the Mozart city and the whole Salzkammergut Lake district.
The second section of the Eddy Merckx Classic exists of approximately 117km in length and 1350 m difference in altitude. Besides, there is a very interesting program for the viewers and those who are motivating the bikers.
