Mondsee Lake is one of the warmest lakes in the Salzkammergut Lake District and is ideal for swimming, surfing, diving or sailing in early summer! 12 kilometres long and up to 68 metres deep, the lake stretches along side the Drachenwand rock face. Many people say that the water in the lake has very special qualities and is feels like silk on your skin.
The Alpenbad beach on the west banks of the lake near to the village of Mondsee is ideal for families. A wave-slide, pipe-slide and diving boards are bound to keep boredom at bay. A secure non-swimmer’s zone with lots of sand for building sandcastles means the even the smallest of visitors are happy. From the broad jetties that jut out into the water you can enjoy a gorgeous view across the water to the mountains.
A boat trip on Lake Mondsee is great fun for everyone. Whether by rowing boat, pedalo or on the sundeck of the large ferries, hours of enjoyment are guaranteed.
The Drachenwand golf club is one of the most beautiful 9-hole golf courses in Austrian and boasts a golf school, an excellent restaurant and a fantastic view of the Mondsee Monastery.
The village of Mondsee is well worth a visit: shopping or just window shopping in the narrow streets, enjoying a drink or something to eat overlooking the town square. Of course you can’t go to Mondsee without taking a look at the old Basilica of St. Michael, formerly the monastery church of the Benedictine monks in Mondsee.
