Mountain biking at Hotel Mohrenwirt

What do you need to go mountain biking? Well: Above all you need mountains! And we have plenty of those in the Lake Fuschl region and the Salzkammergut ! Numerous, varied mountain bike routes, individually sign-posted according to the level of difficulty, offer the ambitious beginner as much fun as the experienced down-hill racer. At the reception in the Hotel Mohrenwirt in Fuschl am See we have prepared info-sheets for successful mountain bike tours!

A brand new attraction for mountain bike enthusiasts is the Alm-Tour in the Salzkammergut: 3 days, 30 Alms or mountain pastures, 146,3 km of biking routes and an altitude difference of 4,170 m! More information can be found under www.almentour.com. Have fun!

We have chosen three mountain bike routes where the starting point can easily be reached by car from Fuschl am See in just a few minutes:

 

 

Sonnberg

distance: 27 km
height: 605 m
difficulty: easy
path surface: asphalt, gravel
start/finish: Faistenau, Village square, 1000 year old lime tree

Description
From the 1000 year old lime tree in the centre of the village of Faistenau, the route takes you down hill to the village district of Vordersee, at the Hirschpoint car park at the Hintersee lake you veer left towards the mountains on a curving uphill track, it then flattens out, approx 3km straight ahead – Schafbach Valley over a bridge, then left downhill. signposted to Schafbachalm
Once in Hintersee its worth visiting the “Eiskapelle” of “Ice Chapel”. For a quick bite to eat and drink and a rustic rest we recommend the Schafbachalm and Grögeralm mountain huts.

Faistenau Schafberg

distance: 22 km
height: 680 m
difficulty: intermediate

Description
From the 1000 year old lime tree in the centre of the village of Faistenau head towards Tiefbrunnau, in the village district of Ramsau turn off right to Schönau, straight ahead over 2 bridges, then turn right at Döllerer towards Faistenauer Schafberg. A steep climb to the Mitteregg and Oberwiesalm pastures.
The special reward on this tour is the breathtaking view over the Salzburger Alpine upland as far as the Dachstein massif!
Make a rest at one of the following mountain hut restaurants: Mittereggalm, Lanzenhütte, Döllerhütte, Schafbachalm, Grögeralm.

Königsberg - Breitenberg

distance: 30 km
height: 1105 m
difficulty: difficult

start/finish: Faistenau, village square, 1000 year old lime tree

Description
From the middle of the village of Hintersee towards Talschluss-Aschau, left toward the the barrier, downhill towards Königsberg, after branching off towards the Konigsberalm go right to Breitenberg. At the next fork turn left uphill. In the Breitenwandalm area stay left, you come to the Brennwaldalmstraße, back to the Königsbergalm. On this tour there are several steep climbs to overcome! Finally, a stop off at Gasthof Hotel Hintersee or at the Lindenwirt restaurant for a well-earned rest
