Hiking in Austria’s Largest Mountain Pasture Area
Pristine nature in the Salzkammergut
Not far from Fuschl am See you will find the Postalm. The Postalm is Austria’s largest mountain pasture area and is well worth a visit. When Bad Ischl was still the royal residence and there were still horse-drawn post coaches, some of the horses were sent up to the “alm” for the summer. Even today the Postalm is a summer grazing area for young cattle. Over 2000 cows spend the summer months grazing on these lush pastures ensuring that there are enough dairy products available for the many restaurants and mountain huts in this breath-taking area.
Many of the hiking routes take you past mountain restaurants which usually serve homemade cheese, butter, bread, speck and other “stronger” refreshments!
If you would like to enjoy the beautiful nature and countless activities in the Salzkammergut Region send us your non-binding online inquiry. Enjoy your holidays at Hotel Mohrenwirt.
Winter Paradise Postalm
The nearby ski area Postalm offers 20 km or prepared pistes for pure alpine skiing pleasure! Lying at 1200 metres, the Postalm ski station is situated in the centre of Austria’s largest mountain pasture area and in addition to its altitude, the snow-making machines make the area snow-sure from the beginning of December to the beginning of April. Skiing, carving, boarding, cross-country skiing – and afterwards a visit to one of the convivial mountain restaurants! The 10,000 m² fun-park means that the kids are also kept happy off-piste. In the ski-kindergarten and ski school your children will be given the very best care leaving you free to enjoy unlimited pisted pleasure.
The rustic mountain huts welcome hungry and thirsty skiers to enjoy a few moments of sun on the sun terrace or the warm and homely atmosphere inside the ski huts in the Salzkammergut.
