The 2009 Salzburg Festival will be opened with a ceremony at the Felsenreitschule today.
Once again, there will be a Party for Everyman to open the Festival. On July 25, Salzburg’s old town will be turned into one great stage, where more than 100 concerts, events and exhibitions take place without admission.
Once again, the Salzburg Festival, ORF Salzburg and Siemens Austria will continue the tradition of the Siemens Festival Nights in Salzburg’s old city center. From July 25 to August 16, 2009, Festival productions will be shown on a large open-air screen on Salzburg’s Kapitelplatz at free admission. Here is the full program.

Either action at the public beach at the „Fuschlseebad“

or laid-back at the hotel’s private beach
It was a wonderful summer day at the Fuschlsee today: 35 degrees air and 22 degrees water temperature. It was a busy day for everybody at the Fuschlsee as you can see on the picture of the “Fuschlseebad”. As guest of our Hotel Mohrenwirt you have the advantage to be able to enjoy the calmness of the private beach as well. Each to their own!

After a long time I grabbed my mountain bike yesterday and rode it for a short round (23km and 375m altitude difference).
The route: Fuschl am See – Schöfbaumkapelle – over the Feldberg to the Hundsmarktmühle – along the Fuschler Ache to Thalgau – over the old street passing the Rauchhaus back to Fuschl am See.
It was pretty cool, but wet. That’s why I looked dirty and crestfallen (like our poodle Gina when she’s outside in the rain). And that’s the big difference to riding a racing bike – you don’t get dirty!

Before the race at 06:30 a.m. (without rain)

After the race and 4 hours of rain!
June 28th 2009 was the day! Me and some friends of mine entered the contest “Mondsee 5-Seen-Radmarathon” (137km – Tour B). When we got up in the morning it was just cloudy, but when the marathon started at 08:00 a.m. it was pouring and did not stop for the next 4,5 hours. We had a lot of fun anyway! Fortunately we’ve bought real good waterproof clothes at “Radsport Angerer” in Fuschl am See. Guests of our hotel also participated in the marathon and also had a great time. For the next year we plan to put a larger group together.
Our Mini Cooper during his visit at Hangar 7
If you are interested in arts, architecture and motor sports, you should definitely plan a visit at Hangar 7 at Salzburg Airport. At the moment they show an exhibition of Italian artists, but not only art lovers are at their own expense – at Hangar 7 you find lots of race cars, airplanes and other highlights. The unique architecture of Hangar 7 (made of steel and glass) can be considered as artwork itself. The Hangar 7 is open daily between 09:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. – free entrance.

Since yesterday the Mohrenwirt provides a fast and free Wireless Lan Connnection througout the whole Hotel. It even works in our romantic garden! So if you want to relax by surfing the net, you can do so!
The password is available at the reception.

While searching for all-weather activities I found something new – it is called “geocaching” and is explained here on wikipedia.
Long story short: it is kind of a scavenger hunt using a GPS. The “caches” are hidden (mostly at spectacular places or sights) and you have to find them with the aid of the GPS coordinates.
www.geochaching.com is the official homepage for this exciting “game”. Here you find caches all around the world and even in Fuschl am See and its surrounding there are 15 caches hidden. Of course the Mohrenwirt is part of the game and hid one cache himself (username on www.geocaching.com is “DerMohrenwirt”).

After a couple of days with heavy rain Lake Fuschl has filled up. Our landing stage normally is 50cm above the waterline and is now almost at the same level.
Today was a really nice day with lots of sunshine and foremost the temperatures went up again.
If you want to know what is going on in our kitchen than watch that video! Our chef Marc Hürzeler is showing you how to make a traditional Austrian Meal “Kasnock´n”. It is a special kind of small dumplings roasted with cheese. You have to try it out at your next visit at the Mohrenwirt.
